Mount Maculot in Batangas

I organized a climb recently this January 14, 2012 to Mt Maculot in Cuenca, Batangas to celebrate my Anniversary climb with Tinawag Ng Kalikasan Mountaineers (TNK). Same mountain last January.

The group left office at around 10:15am.
Rode a bus to Buendia LRT heading Jam Bus Terminal. (Ordinary, fare 17php)
Rode the bus and went off to Lipa, Batangas at 11:30am. (Airconditioned, fare 124php)
Dropped off at around 1:10 in Tambo Exit.
Rode a jeepney going to Cuenca for 20 minutes. (20php each)

Dropped off, ate at Tita Rose’ Eatery.
Menu
While waiting for our food, we bought our breakfast dish in the near Marketplace.

The store where we boought most of our dish and ingredients.

Tuyo – Our traditional breakfast dish.
We went back and the food hasn’t cooked yet. If you have a contact number of Tita Rose, better text her at Tambo Ext so food will be prepared after arriving to her restaurant.

Special Lomi (Topped with Chicharon, Kikiam and Liver) – Recommended since it’s Batangas delicacy where tourists should try.
Finished lunch at 3:00pm. Just perfect time to start the trek.

View from main road.
Rode a tricycle going to the jump off.
Had to stop at barangay outpost to register and pay 10php per head.

Me, registering the group.
Ka Manuel’s place where almost all mountaineers go for siesta and tidying up.

Starting point of trek.

From here, a 5 minute walk will get you to a cemented road ascending gradually and about 5 minutes to reach the soil part again.

The group gathered to have a moment of silence.
IMPORTANT NOTE: As you walk along the trail, on the very first fork, turn left which goes down. The right trail is a wrong trail and leads nowhere but dead end after about 2 hrs of trek.
On this fork, from turning left, one should be able to see a sign of Maculot on the left attached to a tree and right side goes up which leads to the campsite.
In our case, we got lost because we took the right path from the 1st fork. I’m having a doubt already whether we’re on the right trail or not. The only thing we’re clinging on to are the trashes we found along the way. After 2 hours of trek, we reached a point where it’s impossible to go up. We had to go down back to where we started. Maycon, is too exhausted to continue the climb and demands that she go home. Of course, I did not let that happen. We all agreed to take a rest and camp there since it’s a clearing. We pitched 2 tents. I prepared the food. She and Jaymie, fell asleep without eating so I took their share and put them on a covered plate where they can eat them later.
Tired

Our light that night
We started trek at around 3:40am. The trail is steep ascend. 30 minutes after, we reached Manggahan, the romoured place where a girl named Mayla, hang herself.
We reached the campsite at almost 6:00am. Still quite dark. We pitched one tent beside the store and put all our bags inside. Took our cameras and my tripod and immediately went to Rockies. We had to go there early to watch the sunrise and to get a good place because it gets crowded. Good thing we were the first there so we took a lot of pictures. I took HDR shots.

I love my shots. \(^_^)/
We went back to our camp when it was already hot. We had a siesta. Maycon prepared the breakfast. Corned beef, tuyo, tomatoes, sardines and omelette. It was a very delicious breakfast for all of us.

Our chef and nurse, Maycon.
We start our descend at 11:30am. Trek was easy for us this time. The only thing that made our time longer were the conversations. We reached the store where Buko Juice and Halo Halo are sold in no time.

The halo halo and buko juice store.
By 4 in the afternoon, we reached Ka Manuel’s place. Had another rest and tidied up.

Waiting for the rest to finish taking their baths.
A fee of 15php per head for bath and 10php for dump.
We left Ka Manuel’s via tricycle and from the main road rode a jeep to Lipa. We went to Mang Inasal where we had our victory meal.

Overall, it was a very fun and exciting experience once again. I plan to climb it again this year and next time I would reach campsite before sunset.
